These terms were last updated 24/05/2018.
- “The Website” means this website, currently available at https://www.auroraco.re.
- “The Discord” means the official Aurora Core Discord server, which is made available to you upon invite to the guild.
- “Admin” or “Admins” means anyone within the guild who is of Guild Officer or Admin rank on the Discord, as well as Alexis Queen (the poor tech who keeps this website up to date).
- “Visitor” or “Visitors” means any person visiting or using this website’s services. That’s you!
- “The Terms” means the agreement on this page, which covers usage of this website.
If you have any issues or grievances, please contact one of the Admins on the Discord or in-game.
By using this website, you agree to abide by the Guild Rules (found here) as well as these terms.
Ownership of Content
Any content (including but not limited to character names, stories, designs, and locations) remain the property of their original creators. By submitting your own user-generated content, you acknowledge you have the rights to submit this content, and grant the Admins a non-commercial, non-exclusive license to use, modify, and transform this content. Submitted content must be “PG-13” and abide by the laws of the European Union (where this website is hosted).
The Admins reserve the right to remove any content that you submit for any reason, immediately and without prior notice.
Some Star Wars content on this website is used with permission from the Fan Site Kit. This remains the property of LucasArts and LucasFilm. Some other copyrighted materials (specifically the “Codex” pages) are used under “fair use”, with intent of educational purposes only, and remain the property of their original creators.
The simple version: You let us mention your characters and backstories both in roleplay, posts on this website, or any promotional uses made by the Admins. We can’t use them commercially however. Don’t submit anything saucy, stupid, or illegal.
If, for any reason, the admins believe that you have not complied with these Terms or the Guild Rules, the admins may, at their sole discretion, cancel your access to either your account for this website or the entirety of this website, immediately and without prior notice.
THIS WEBSITE IS PROVIDED “AS IS”, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE ADMINS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE WEBSITE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE WEBSITE.
Who we are
Our website address is: http://auroraco.re.
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
When visitors leave posts or comments on the site we collect the data shown in the post/comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
When you use the application contact form, it is subject to the same data collection as posts and comments. Your application form is only seen by the Admins.
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
No identifiable analytics are currently collected by the admins, except for your IP address and browser user agent, as mentioned above.
Who we share your data with
Your data is only visible to the admins. Any user-generated-content or comments that you post are public on the site however (as that is the intent).
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website, we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
To request we rectify or erase your personal data, please contact one of the admins on Discord, to be passed on to Alexis Queen, who will handle such matters.
Where we send your data
Any data sent through the application form is sent to the Admins via email. Otherwise, all your data remains on this website and its secure server.
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service, at the Admins’ discretion. This section will be updated should the Admins choose to do so.
How we protect your data
Any data that is not publicly visible on the Website remains stored in a private secure server, hosted by Vultr. This data does not leave the server, barring regular backups or the website being migrated to a new private server. Backups are sent to and kept by Alexis Queen.
Should a data breach occur, any affected parties will be notified either by email, through Discord, or both.
What third parties we receive data from
As mentioned above, we use the Gravatar service for your user profile pictures.
What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data
We do none. Because there’s no point. We’re a non-profit roleplay group, not Facebook.
Changes to the Terms & Privacy
Although most changes are likely to be minor, this website may change these terms from time to time, and in the admins’ sole discretion. We encourage visitors to frequently check this page for any changes to these terms. Your continued use of this website after any change in these terms will constitute your acceptance of such change.
